Free Native Milkweed Giveaway Planta de Algodoncillo nativo Gratis

The Native Milkweed Giveaway will take place at De Forest Park, located at 6255 De Forest Ave. in Long Beach, California, on Saturday June 24 2023. The event offers an opportunity for nature lovers of all ages to contribute to the conservation of Monarch butterflies and their habitats. Participants can attend optional classes conducted in both English and Spanish, scheduled at 11 am and 12 pm respectively. These classes will provide a guide on how to plant, care & valuable insights into the significance of milkweed plants and the vital role they play in the Monarch butterfly life cycle.

Why Milkweed?

Milkweed plants serve as the primary host for Monarch butterflies during their breeding and migration process. The butterflies lay their eggs on the leaves of milkweed, and once hatched, the caterpillars rely solely on the plant as their food source. By ensuring the availability of milkweed, we can support the Monarch population and contribute to the preservation of this magnificent species.

Each household attending the event will receive five milkweed plants, offering a practical and effective way to create a butterfly-friendly habitat in their own backyards or community gardens. By planting milkweed, we can establish crucial corridors of sustenance for Monarch butterflies during their migration, encouraging them to visit and flourish in our local ecosystems.

Collaboration for Conservation:

The Santa Monica Mountains Fund, Puente Latino Association, and Surf Rider Foundation Long Beach have come together to organize this significant event. By combining their expertise, resources, and passion for environmental conservation, these organizations are promoting community engagement and active participation in the preservation of Monarch butterflies.

Together, we can make a tangible difference in protecting the Monarch butterfly population and raising awareness about the importance of preserving biodiversity. Join the event, take home your five milkweed plants, and become a part of the movement to support these delicate and captivating butterflies. Register below for your 5 plants and for one of the classes. (class not required for the giveaway)
