during the pandemic we created a drive thru experience for day of the dead 2020

Dia de Los Muertos a Magical Experience

Puente distributed one hundred twenty ofrenda art kits to families and produced educational videos to show how to build an ofrenda and its significance

By 2020 due to the pandemic restrictions, we were compelled to think out of the box. Thanks to the innovative and creative minds of our board and art director, we were able to change the event from an in-person event to a “Magical Drive Through Experience”. With the support of the community, we received 350 paper flowers and a variety of decorations all made by hand. Also, artists and residents came together to build 9 different ofrendas, painted jumbo skulls and helped decorate the space at Ricardo’s Nursery. The event received hundreds of cars visiting, some waited one and a half hours to ge in. All who shared their experiences agreed the event was worth every minute of the wait time. We brought art displays, community ofrendas, laser light shows, and created unique spaces for art to make the experience more stimulating and remarkable.

We repeated the event in 2021 and this time it was recognized by our Councilmember and residents as the best event of the year. This time we included a private radio frequency where we shared music tailored for the event and the attendee’s enjoyment
